Hello,

I searched on the forum but couldn't find similar topic.

I was wondering if there is a way to change the background color (or top banner or any of the elements) of the web GUI?
The idea behind this is to be able to differenciate between different servers (like production and test server) to avoid any mistake...
I'm using an old version of FreeNAS (v9.2.1.8) so maybe this is possible on some newer version?

Thanks.

You mean like this?
upload_2016-9-11_18-31-16.png

I simply edited the "headerbg.png" file located in "/usr/local/www/freenasUI/static/images".

Of course, I did make a backup of the "headerbg.png" as well. Don't know if it will stick after an upgrade (but assuming it would).

Anyways, that is how did it.

That is exactly what I meant and exactly the idea I had in mind.
I just didn't know where to find the files.

Thanks a lot!
I'm playing with snapshots to get confident with them and that will prevent me from doing bad mistakes! :-D

@Mirfster: I'm not (very) familiar with FreeNAS and FreeBSD and still on the learning curve so I'd be glad to have some feedback on what I did, if that's ok for you.

To change the file I used mount -uw / since the file is read-only. And then mount -ur / to get it read-only again.
  • Am I doing it the right way?

When I set it back to read-only, I was suprised because it took quite long for the command to execute (like a little over 15 minutes whereas the first command was almost instantaneous) and the web GUI (which I can understand) and the (CIFS) shares were frozen during that time.
  • Is that a normal behaviour to observe?
  • And why would it take so long to get it back to read-only?
I could observe the same behaviour when I updated some tunables. I suppose this is consistent since the tunable will be written in a system file that is read-only.

I have an other question regarding the file system:
  • Do I understand it correctly: if I want to know to which file system a file is associated to, using the exemple here I could do df -h /usr/local/www/freenasUI/static/images/headerbg.png and I get
Code:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/ufs/FreeNASs1a	926M	704M	148M	83% /
So the file system is "/dev/ufs/FreeNASs1a" (the USB stick I'm using as boot device) mounted on "/".
Thanks for the help.

I just connected to the Server via WinSCP, much easier that way. Simply downloaded the file, modified it and uploaded it. Also, you can Check/Set Permissions as well.

Seems fine that way
