Windows seems to "remember" the credentials for //Freenas/. I've tried to look for it in credential manager but it's not stored there. Also "net delete" won't help. I would like to do this to be able to log on to freeness as different users. Is there a way to remove the "cache"

(Freenas is not mapped)

Assuming you're authenticating access with local users, then if FreeNAS is aware of your Windows credentials, it will use ACLs to determine your access permissions for shares it offers. If you are logged in as a particular Windows user and wish to connect as a different user, then you have to map a share and connect under different Windows credentials. When you map a share this way, those credentials are stored in the Windows Credential Manager.

Well in this case I'm using local user "Michael" on my windows. It seems that I'm automatically connected as "root". as far as I know I didn't set up my windows credentials on freeness.

To see the FreeNAS ACLs from Windows, have a look at the share properties under the Security tab. A screenshot would be useful.

Alright , got this one figured out now. I did a long time ago set up a user "Michael" member of wheel. so that user had same preveliges as "root". I deleted that user for now and was able to get a prompt for the credentials. So that was the issue in this case.
