CKSUM counts cleared by system restart. Why?

I've got four 8TB White drives (WD80EMAZ) recently shucked from EasyStore cases that I replaced into a zVol. Two are OK, but two are accumulating CKSUM counts. I've replaced cables and changed sata ports, but the two drives continue to accumulate CKSUM counts. I'll replace them momentarily with 8TB Reds.

I noticed, though, that the CKSUM count for those devices returns to zero if I restart FreeNAS (don't know about other devices because the rest aren't throwing CKSUM errors). I'm surprised that the zpool/device status doesn't survive a restart. Can someone explain this behavior (which seems to be like a zpool clear)?

Also, the White drives are seen by SMART as SATA3 devices capable of 6Gb/s but running at 3Gb/s [SATA Version is: SATA 3.2, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 3.0 Gb/s)]. Seems like my ASRock C2750D4I FreeNAS-11.2-U5 system sees all four of them as sata 2 even though they are connected to the Intel SATA3 ports (I have checked and rechecked this). I'm wondering why that might be?
