I have created a single user and assign a password for the user. How do I configure CIFS so when I map the drives in my windows machine I get a login box to enter the user credentials in order to map the drive/nas share? I have browse the forum but I have not found what I am looking for. I would appreciate any help or link. Thanks in advance.

In windows explorer type \\freenas (or whatever your hostname is, it can also be the IP if it is using a static IP) and hit enter.

It will show your shared folder and you need to right click it and map as network drive.

Thanks for your reply Irusak. I think I did a bad job explaining
myself. My nas box is working properly. I can map the nas shares on
my windows computers with no problem without having to enter password
to access them. What I am struggling with is setting up permissions
for my user so I do get prompted for password on my windows computer
when mapping the nas shares. I do know the user i crested has to be a
'local user' but i dont know what is the correct configuration of the
CIFS and volmes permissions so i get prompted for password in windows.
Thanks
