I have set the CIFS share on my FreeNAS8 exactly as in http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/CIFS_Shares. My shared folder is accessible from Windows 7 without problems (using name freenas). Problems are starting after computer restart (PC with Win7). In Network Places I see FREENAS, but can't access it ("Windows can't gain access to //FREENAS"). When I use IP of FREENAS in for example Total Commander, access is working. Problem disappears when I change the network name of server to for example FREENAS1. And problem appears again, when I restart my PC. Do somebody have similar experience? I had the same problem with FreeNAS7.
Thanks in advance for help.

Did you create an A Record entry on your DNS server pointing FREENAS to whatever IP you are using? You could also try using \\freenas.local

Alternately, if there is no DNS on the network, everything is trying to be resolved by NetBIOS, which is sketchy at best. To make NetBIOS work at its best, make sure that Local Master is set in the CIFS configuration. This will make FreeNAS the master browser for the network, which will result in less noise on your network, and a reliable master. Without a set master, your Windows boxen will poll every so often to see who gets to be the master browser for the next pre-determined amount of time.

Though I highly recommend DNS if you have the means.

Are you trying to connect via the hostname? or via the netBIOS name?
