I recently changed from a working freenas config under 8.0 to 8.3.2.
This was advised on this forum before upgrading to 9.x.

I did an ISO upgrade, imported the volume and did an upgrade from version 15 to 28 via the shell.
So, as displayed by the shell, it went well.
As the 8.3.2. doesn't work without users with permissions (I always used "Guest" with all persmissions), I added an user.

So I can read and acces the data without a problem. But when I want to modify or write to the volume, it keeps telling my that I don't have the right permissions.
So, I want the acces the permissions at the volume-manager tab.
But at the moment I press the "persmissionbutton" I get an error at the GUI.
Every upgrade step from 8.0 to 8.3.2.was correct and showed no errors at the pool (All pools are healthy)
What am I doing wrong?
(I watched the 40 minutes Youtube film about permissions excetera)

This is what I get:

This looks weird. Which groups do you have configured?

I found an old bug with the same error, but related to NFS shares (Bug #1953). The problem was with their group names:

We used integers for user and group names - that was the problem.
After changing our naming scheme to string (adding an alphanumeric
character in front of the integer) the problems are solved.

Thanks Warri, for putting in this direction. I found something strange indeed.
I've added the user "6600", as this is my mediaplayer for streamingpurposes.
So, after you're suggestion, I tried renaming the user ( and the "automatically" added group 6600) . But to no avail.
Looks like I have to re-install Freenas 8.3.2. Start from scratch again.
Not a big problem as the data in the pool/volume isn't affected and I'm confident that the volume will be imported again.
Strange things are going on, look at the picture below:

This might be the problem. I don't think you have to reinstall FreeNAS.
Instead, try to delete the groups 6600 and 3DS2, and create new ones starting with an non-integer character. To do so, you might have to un-assign the group from the users first.

Only if this doesn't work, I'd try to reinstall from scratch :)

I'll keep you updated, thanks again.
I got a bit freightend as a context windows appears (not used to these as Freenas works/handles pretty fast after every change I made).
The final question will be if I will be able to change the permissions after deleting both users/groups 6600 and 3DS2 (both TVIX mediaplayers ;-) )
I normally try to avoid windows like these:

According to the 8.3.1 User Guide, this should look different? Not sure what its trying to do there.

Try to access the user list via "Bekijk Gebruikers" (I guess), and delete/change them from there.

It succesfully worked!

After logging out and in again, the useraccounts 6600 and 3DS2 were deleted.

Thanks!

So, the next step will be the original problem, changing and modifying data on the volume.
But at this moment I can succesfully enter the permissions again at the volume-manager.

I have to correct that: Entering the permission at "View Volumes" instead of "Volume Manager"

Great! Good luck with the permissions and further upgrades to 9.x ;)

Note that a pool upgrade is not mandatory, but one-way if you decide to do it. You should probably run on v28 for a while, even after switching to FreeNAS 9.x which support v5000 (feature flags) and only upgrade if you really need the new features.

I just stay with the 8.3.2. version for a while.
Upgrading from the older 8.0 version to this 8.3.2. was triggered by a malfunctioning USB stick. (couldn't get reporting-maps and error (recovery)messages at the main panel displayed).
So, I hope a recently fresh installation on a 30 GB SSD (I know, not needed), will help to avoid another (hardware) fault's in future.
