Hi,

I'm running on 11.2 Beta 2 and I cannot leave it. I tried several times to go to Beta 3 without success. The update process seems to be running fine. At least there are no errors shown. When I reboot though it always boots Beta 2.

When I look at the console (attached screen) in the boot menu there are NO traces of Beta3 or RC1 entries. When I look into the WebGUI under System / Boot Environments I can spot the new entries. By now there are several entries for Beta 3 and for RC1 since I tried several times to update each.

I can Activate those entries, it just doesn't have any effect. I also tried to delete some old entries like 11.1 U2 and such.

I have also tried once to update via
Code:
freenas-update update
in cli. Same result.

I can't give you any error messages since there aren't any.

Alternately, check for network issues. As a start, what is the output of ifconfig?

I am pretty sure you ran into the same issue I was struggling with yesterday. If you reboot, does it still loads the grub bootloader instead of the new freebsd native loader?

Yes, it does. What can I do?

Hard to tell without the hardware specs and output of ifconfig.

I'm a bit lost. What would their iconfig have to do with the bootloader not being updated or booting into the new environment?

It sounds like the update is being interrupted and not completing. However that is just a guess without hardware/network info.

The update is not being interrupted. Neither in CLI nor in GUI I'm getting an error. The reboot happens automatically after the update. Would that happen if it was interrupted?

It sounds like the update is being interrupted and not completing. However that is just a guess without hardware/network info.
I noticed that the update completed successfully (well at least until the first reboot step), but because of grub not being overwritten by the new loader the new update couldn't start as grub boot environments are no longer updated. I was able to work around this (made a post for this but I am on my phone). When the new loader was in place, the system completed the upgrade and rebooted at least one time more.
I was going to test a new install on that system to check how a clean install behaves but that has to wait as the PSU have out over the weekend. ;-(

I found your posting:
https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...-conversion-from-grub-to-native-loader.70697/
and the linked bug:
https://redmine.ixsystems.com/issues/42245

gpart show gives me that for my boot disk:
Code:
=>	  34  30031183  da1  GPT  (14G)
		34 1024	1 freebsd-boot (512K)
	  1058 6 - free - (3.0K)
	  1064 30030152	2 freebsd-zfs (14G)
  30031216 1 - free - (512B)

Then I used your command:
Code:
gpart bootcode -b /boot/pmbr -p /boot/gptzfsboot -i 1 da1

Then I rebooted but eversince the device isn't coming back online. Since the machine is remote I can't do anything now. Probably have to reinstall. I made a backup of geli keys and configuration before.

Well I reinstalled and tried to decrypt the volumes. No luck so far. I give the passphrase, choose geli file from before and then it just says
Code:
Error Unlocking

Edit:
I still have the old flash drive. It doesn't boot any more but if I might want to access something from that, it's still available.

Edit2:
Well there were just some disks missing due tue cable issue. An error message with a bit more information would be great though.

Problems won't end. Now that I have reinstalled FreeNAS and also have my volume back my jails seem to be gone.
In GUI it just says:
Code:
No data to display
but when I go to console and say iocage list I get all my jails which I can also start. Just the frontend won't display them. Weird. Someone got an idea about that?

Nice monologue, eh?
Just in case someone else suffers from the same problem...
When trying to create a new iocage guest I found out that I could not list my templates with:
Code:
iocage list -t

The zfs volume was set to readonly I really don't know why.
I set it back to r/w and eversince then the GUI went back to normal, showing me all my iocage guests again.
Code:
zfs set readonly=off <<zfs_volume>>

A clean install on mirrored SSD drives works out of the box, I even tried to install older versions and upgrade to the latest version but can't replicate the issue.

Well I mess around a lot with iocage in command line since the GUI doesn't offer all of what I like so much about iocage ^^
Don't know what got the Volume to turned readonly but I did definitely not set this manually to readonly.
