I started using FreeNAS in 2017 when I had an array of 5x 4TB disks in RAIDZ1 layout
In 2020, I experienced a drive failure followed shortly after by a second, fortunately I managed to not lose any data and replaced each drive with a like for like replacement. At this time I also used the opportunity to upgrade to TrueNAS Core.
In 2022, I upgraded to TrueNAS Scale and managed to get a lot more functionality from this setup with the wide range of apps available.
In 2023, I had another drive failure. This time I moved my data to a new array of 3x 10TB disks in RAIDZ1 with AES-256-GCM encryption.
In 2024, I'm hoping to improve the stability of my setup on the software side by reducing my dependency on TrueCharts, using the TrueNAS community apps where available.
