Boot drive over 80% warning

I got a warning on my backup machine after installing the latest update to say I was over 80% capacity. It only has a 8GB USB so had a look and there were about 10 previous versions. I left the default (Dec 14) and one from each month from Feb (so 5 more) and it's down to ~60% and is using 4.8GB.

When I checked my main machine, which has 16GB USBs, it has a default and 3 others (1 from Apr and 2 in May) but is only using ~6% and less then 1GB.

Why is the backup machine using so much more space for not that many more updates and how many do people tend to keep?

I would think that it would have something to do with the size of the updates. They probably aren't the same size. I've got 2 16GB drives and haven't deleted any yet. Guess I will whenever I need to. :)

It would be nice to have an automatic cleanup option but for now it's a manual operation. I only keep the last 3 on my boot device, no need to keep any more than that.

Personally I don't want an automatic cleanup option. One of my most stable boot environments was from several months ago and I keep that one as a fallback just in case.

I see your point however I did say option, not mandatory. In my opinion that would be something you would elect with a check box and then you would fill in how many boot environments to retain. For myself I turn off the automatic update and choose if and when I want to install an update. Right now my system is very stable and unless there is something of interest in a future update, I see no reason to change.
