Hello,

I just recently set up this system. Some of the specs are attached in the printout below. I am using a Fatal1ty H270 Performance board with the latest firmware. Any help is greatly appreciated as I have been at this for a while and my wife is starting to get mad :D.

Issue:
When I start copying files to the san, it starts copying the files and then after about 20 seconds I start getting the following type of errors and usually by copy speed eventually drops to 0 and it hangs my windows pc that I am using to copy the files. Also have a hard time getting smartctl commands when the errors start.

Trouble shooting I have done:
-ran smart tests that passed
-swapped sata cable on all drives
-changed uefi drive setting from ahci to raid
-moved some drives to different sata power on different cable
-reinstalled freenas and pool from scratch
-tried disconnecting one drive at a time

-changed uefi drive setting from ahci to raid
This will not have been helpful. Did you set it back?

You are running with the minimum required RAM. Are you doing anything like L2ARC with an SSD (that would be very bad if you were).

You haven't given us a great look at your hardware setup, but I see the WD blacks in the SMART reports... these are not good disks for a NAS.

Perhaps it would also be useful to see the output of zpool status after you have done the pool setup.

Yup I changed it back to AHCI. I am not doing anything that is not the default config so no L2ARC. I do have more memory and another power supply I can use if you think this may be a good troubleshooting step. Is there a command I can use to display all the hardware info?

Here is the output from zpool status

Code:
 pool: freenas-boot
 state: ONLINE
  scan: none requested
config:

		NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
		freenas-boot ONLINE 0 0 0
		  mirror-0 ONLINE 0 0 0
			da0p2 ONLINE 0 0 0
			da1p2 ONLINE 0 0 0

errors: No known data errors

  pool: freenaspool
 state: ONLINE
  scan: resilvered 392M in 0 days 00:00:07 with 0 errors on Mon Nov 19 01:48:00 2018

Sovafter no help on here and wasting way too much time on this including trying different memory, system board, processor, sata cables, the only thing left was the hard drives or software. Went to from version 11.2 to 11.1 and voila. Problem fixed. Stable release my ass. You've been warned.

I've exactly the same problem (same logs, same smart errors), but it started with 11.1 and it's even worse with 11.2.
- HP MicroServer Gen10, 8GB Ram, quad core Opteron X3000
- 4 disks WD2002FFSX (Western Digital Red Pro 2T)
All smart tests on HD passed without any error, all disks replaced by the vendor, MB replaced by HPE, power supply replaced, memtests passed without errors, and I even tried every possible configuration in the bios. I tried also to mess up with tunables (hint.ahci.*) as suggested in other forums for similar issues: no luck at all.
Right now, as it was impossible to make it work properly with FreeNAS, it's serving as iSCSI target with CentOS7 for a small virtualization infrastructure and everything is fine (obviously without all the advantages of FreeNAS and ZFS), so I doubt that it could be just an hardware related issue.
Any idea?
Thank you.
