Hi!
I installed freenas 9.2 a while ago, and I am still trying to get the hang of it. I am experiencing several problems - not sure if they are connected...

I would like to use timemachine to backup a macbook pro (OsX 10.9.1). So I followed the freenas guide and created a user "dejhost" and a homedirectory "tm_dejhost". I also create a group, but I am unable to change the group of my user from "nobody" to the new group :-(

Trying to connect timemachine from the macbook to the afp-server, I received an error on the macbook:
Time Machine can’t access the backup disk “tm_dejhost”. The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 2.)
Searching the web for help I figured that the best thing to do is to start over. This time I named the homedirectory "tmdejhost"... receiving the same error (only the name of the backup disk changed) and the following log file from the server:

Code:
Feb 23 19:18:57 Jonas afpd[11693]: AFP3.3 Login by dejhost
Feb 23 19:18:57 Jonas afpd[11693]: readvolfile: user home "/mnt/Backup1tb/tmdejhost" doesn't match basedir regex "/mnt/Backup1tb/tm_dejhost"
Feb 23 19:18:57 Jonas afpd[11693]: AFP logout by dejhost
Feb 23 19:18:57 Jonas afpd[11693]: dsi_stream_read: len:0, unexpected EOF
Feb 23 19:18:57 Jonas afpd[11693]: afp_over_dsi: client logged out, terminating DSI session

Feb 23 19:21:03 Jonas afpd[14213]: AFP3.3 Login by dejhost
Feb 23 19:21:03 Jonas afpd[14213]: readvolfile: user home "/mnt/Backup1tb/tmdejhost" doesn't match basedir regex "/mnt/Backup1tb/tm_dejhost"
Feb 23 19:21:03 Jonas afpd[14213]: AFP logout by dejhost
Feb 23 19:21:03 Jonas afpd[14213]: dsi_stream_read: len:0, unexpected EOF
Feb 23 19:21:03 Jonas afpd[14213]: afp_over_dsi: client logged out, terminating DSI session
Feb 23 19:21:03 Jonas afpd[14213]: AFP statistics: 0.60 KB read, 0.45 KB written
Feb 23 19:23:41 Jonas notifier: Stopping inetd.
Feb 23 19:23:41 Jonas notifier: Waiting for PIDS: 3406.
Feb 23 19:23:41 Jonas notifier: Will not 'restart' inetd because inetd_enable is NO.

Two questions:
1) In the serverlog above: I see that the user home doesn't match basedir regex... which is still "tm_dejhost". How can I fix this?
2) Also in the serverlog above: Why does it say "unexpected EOF"?

I hope somebody takes the time to point me in the right direction. There are quite a few things here I don't understand yet.

Thanks in advance.

P.s.: Now, the logfile displays also
Code:
Feb 24 19:10:24 Jonas smartd[2267]: Device: /dev/ada2, 4 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors
Feb 24 19:10:24 Jonas smartd[2267]: Device: /dev/ada2, 4 Offline uncorrectable sectors

SMART values do no list any malfunctioning of the drive. Do I need to replace the disk?

Nope. You aren't the only one. But you did do something wrong. Your problem has been explained so many times that you should have been able to get your answer from the search feature. So I didn't think I needed to explain it for the ump-teenth time just this year. ;)

Fair enough, concerning the unreadable sectors. I will replace the drive.
But I can't find anything helpfull about the "OSStatus error 2" - except the advice to start over. And that I tried. So a link would be much appreciated.

This might be for the reason that "OSStatus error 2" is Apple OSX specific and here are the FreeNAS experts?! Would be interesting to know how many are using Macs - I have only Macs at home.

Anyway, the "OSStatus error 2" regarding Time Machine is IMHO almost always:

1. a file/folder permission problem
2. a sharing (permission) problem
3. a folder naming problem (please no spaces, no special characters, no not-ANSI characters, ...)
4. a UID/PWD problem with off-the-shelf NAS systems with built-in TM

You'll find lots of stuff if you google in this direction.

Kind regards,
