Active Directory migration

Hi folks,

I have a small customer with an existing Samba4 AD domain controller. I know you can set up the same functionality on FreeNAS and I was wondering what is the preferred way to migrate a domain onto the FreeNAS machine.

I could set up a domain with the web interface and then use the CLI to drop the default data, join the existing domain as a domain controller, then demote the original domain controller. Does this seem sane?

FreeNAS is an appliance, not a regular installation of FreeBSD. Any change that is not made through the GUI, may not survive a reboot.
If you want a DC, FreeNAS is not the solution. FreeNAS is able to do many things besides storage, but I suggest that you don't do this.
