The title says it all:
Is there a way to get daily reports about SMART and all without actually connecting the NAS to the outside world?
Yes, I see some people LOL... But, what I mean is this:
NAS -> Ethernet -> Server doing some offline jobs 24/7.
I want to be able to check on the Server (say once a week) to see the SMART reports about the NAS without ever connecting to the internet simply because there is no external access right there, and more so, it is not needed.
So, is there a way to accomplish this? Do the reports need to be implemented by mail service or are there other means? What about a mail service on the Server (offline), anyone tried this?
By the way, the Server is Mac OSX based (A mac mini actually).

How do you want to see the reports?

You could run the test in your own script and dump the result to a file somewhere.

If you're running OS X Server you could run the mail server. Could go the same without Server by configuring PostFix (it's there even without the Server install).

I might not understand your question, you can not ssh into your server and run something like
Code:
sudo smartctl -a -d sat,12 /dev/ada0
or have a cron job send it via email to you inside your own network?

Yeah fracai, I've got OSX Mail Server up and running. It works OK offline on the server but I just can't get Freenas to connect to it via Ethernet.
I just don't get it. I know it is a network configuration thing but I can't seem to find it. The file sharing services work fine via this same Ethernet connection...
Tried with SSL, TLS, Plain, Without SMTP Authentification, nothing seem to do it. I get Errno 61 when trying to send an email.

Thanks anika200, but now I'm willing to make it work via email since the Mail server does the job offline just fine.

SOLVED:

I was testing SSL, TLS... Without ever changing the port from 465. Works fine with 25!
