I run Plex and UniFi controller in separate jails .. all my Plex stuff is 1080p H264 stuff with up to 10 people watching stuff at a time

5600x vs 3700x .. faster cores vs more cores ..?
64GB of 2666 ECC UDIMM's vs 32GB of 3200 ECC UDIMM's .. more RAM vs faster RAM ...?
I'm thinking the more the merrier with cores and RAM? But I thought I'd ask the experts here

Depends on quite a few factors, in general you will want 1-2 cores per stream (likely only 1 if not transcoding).
For RAM, more is always better than speed for TrueNAS (within the same CPU generation).

You might be better served with GPU transcoding (if you are using that), perhaps search the PLEX forums for information?

Important question would really be, are you having issues? If it's working as intended, why throw money at it?

No issues .. I have a 5600x in my wife's setup and she just watches Hulu and has a billion tabs open in Chrome/Edge and Brave .. so a 3700x would be fine in her rig

I run mismatched kits, one is 2x16GB 3200 ECC UDIMM's .. the other is 2x16GB 2666 ECC UDIMM's .. all running at the slower kits speed ..so I could potentially sell the slower kit

I don't want to invest in a GPU for my setup .. unless some of my mooching Plex users wanted to surprise me on my birthday or something , lol. All my content plays just fine for me as it's just 1080p stuff
