Hi everyone!

I've just set up my first Truenas Core server, which is basically a Dell PowerEdge R610 with a SAS 6/IR controller.

As the title mention, truenas only shows 2TB of the hdd, but if i install windows on the server it shows it properly (hdd is gpt partitioned).

I have read about this problem on the forum, but the most of the threads are outdated, and none of them mention, that any other OS can recognize the hdd properly.

I have also read thread about a firmware update for this controller card, which allows hdd up to 4TB.

I know It might solve the problem if I would replace the controller card.

So I would like to know if there is any chance to make this work, without replacing the card, or if not, what types of cards do you recommend?

I attach some pics, these pictures was taken on Hiren's (and in AOMei partition manager), the disk with the problem is assigned to letter C:.

Thank you in advance!

Sorry for bad english.

with a SAS 6/IR controller

This is not acceptable for use with TrueNAS.

The card might be based on an LSI 1068, first gen LSI SAS 3Gbps RAID controller, in which case it is limited in silicon to 2.2TB drives due to the use of 32-bit LBA addressing.

I have also read thread about a firmware update for this controller card, which allows hdd up to 4TB.

There is no firmware fix that I am aware of for this; it's an ancient controller, and even if you could get it to work, there would be other potential issues. You can definitely use a 4TB or 8TB or 16TB HDD on it, but it will end up working as a 2.2TB HDD.

You want an LSI 2008, 2308, or 3008-based HBA crossflashed into IT mode. This will require some cabling upgrades as well.
