The SuperMicro Superchassis CSE-505-203B 1U rack mount, includes a 200w PSU. The supermicro website lists compatible motherboards, and the X10SDV-TLN4F-O is listed on there as compatible.

BUT the 200w PSU in the rack mount has a 20 pin atx, while the X10SDV motherboard accepts a 24 pin ATX.

I have a 20 pin PSU to 24 pin motherboard adapter, but the 1U rack is very tight on space and i would prefer to avoid the adapter.

Given SuperMicro lists the board as compatible with the rack, can I safely operate the X10SDV off a 20 pin atx?

thank you

Yes... just plug it in where it fits. Certain pins are keyed, so you won't be able to plug it in just anywhere. You should connect it to pins 1-20.

That said, I would be concerned about that PSU being able to handle the board and 4 drives.

Some more recent boards won't post with a 20 pin PSU, they require 24 pins, but no harm in trying, it won't damage anything.

Yes, it's possible that the extra pins are on a physically different power bus on the motherboard. I'm not sure why anyone would do that, but it's possible.
