Hi,
I updated from 11.1-U6 to 11.2-release and I'm getting:

/usr/local/etc/rc.d/smartd-daemon: WARNING: /usr/local/etc/smartd.conf is not readable.
undefined

I used to have a smartd running on 11.1

Looking through past threads (mostly regarding various betas), I have:
- rebooted
- added the USB boot drives and removed them from being smartd monitored
- removed all drives and re-added all drives except the USB boot drives from being smartd monitored

What I have not done yet is copy the sample smartd.conf file to smartd.conf - I'm not sure if the parameters in the config would match the FreeNAS suggested parameters.

I'm using SATA drives in a Dell R510 with a flashed H200 controller (which used to work fine in 11.x)

Does anyone maybe have a standard/default config from a running updated or freshly installed system?

Thanks for any help!

Thanks for your suggestion, but that did not help.
I created an empty file with the same rights as the sample:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 0 Dec 15 18:18 smartd.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 6699 Dec 11 15:07 smartd.conf.sample

and now I get:
smartd[2033]: Configuration file /usr/local/etc/smartd.conf parsed but has no entries

I disabled/re-enabled my drives in the storage/disks - still no go. Same error.

OK, I got around to rebooting FreeNAS this morning. Lo and behold, smartd is running now. /usr/local/etc/smartd.conf even has entries!

Looks like the reboot populated the empty-created smartd.conf file, and things appear to work much better.
Thank you, hugovsky, for the tip
