NO nightlies I only run stable. i updated my Freenas tonight and now i have no webgui. It appears this version might be a bit unstable. I had 11.1 on there without issue. I'll try to revert.

Welp the 310 is toast. Reverting back to the previous time did nothing either. Unfortunately this is three times I have had to reinstall after an update. It is beginning to be, for me, do not update..just do a reinstall each new version..:(

tried service nginx restart
got back:
erforming sanity check on nginx configuration:
nginx: the configuration file /usr/local/etc/nginx/nginx.conf syntax is ok
nginx: [emerg] bind() to [fe80::92b1:1cff:fe2e:921d]:80 failed (49: Can't assign requested address)
nginx: configuration file /usr/local/etc/nginx/nginx.conf test failed
root@freenas:~ # service nginx start
Performing sanity check on nginx configuration:
nginx: the configuration file /usr/local/etc/nginx/nginx.conf syntax is ok
nginx: [emerg] bind() to [fe80::92b1:1cff:fe2e:921d]:80 failed (49: Can't assign requested address)
nginx: configuration file /usr/local/etc/nginx/nginx.conf test failed
Starting nginx.
nginx: [emerg] bind() to [fe80::92b1:1cff:fe2e:921d]:80 failed (49: Can't assign requested address)
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/nginx: WARNING: failed to start nginx

So it looks like the configuration that worked fine for nginx in 11.1 got borked by the U1 update.

nope the usb stick is fine. I have even swapped sticks out..freenas for me is sometimes dodgy on upgrades...i know not all software likes all hardware...:) A google search shows me this is a common problem after upgrading freenas...i'll fire up a bug report once i get back from my client calls today.

That's my guess too. I'd try a different stick.

Not really or we would be seeing much more reports of this in the forum. I'd check your hardware out thoroughly before reporting a bug.
I have tried multiple sticks from multiple vendors. It isn't always..but it's become often enough I am going to change how i maintain freenas. I have also switched out lal 4 disks and run server 2016 standard(and let it run as i do Freenas) on this machine with no errors. I have also installed Centos 7 x64 and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS as well. I have been going on with this for months now. I am not saying Freenas is crap or anything..it just doesn't like my environment....no worries, it happens. However this no gui after an upgrade is not an isolated thing..it does popup from time to time with Freenas..and has come up as a bug in 11. Looks like this time it may be a regression..i'll file the bug report anyway...it isn't my hardware.
