Hi!
I have a question.
I want to virtualize the latest version of FreeNAS on a Proxmox hypervisor and add a 10Gbit NIC to it.
Well, that doesn't work quite as it should. When I install Freenas Baremetal the 10Gbit card works as intended.
But if I pass it to the VM I get this error when booting:

Freenas.PNG

Freenas 2.PNG

The card is recognized by the system, but apparently does not get any configuration.
Are there any parameters that need to be set additionally?

best regards

I have a SAS HBA (Sas 2008) and it works fine.
For the system I use: its a Intel R2208GZ with 2x Xeon 2670 v1 and 64G ECC RAM
So everything should be set.

Search for SR-IOV here. That's the industry model for NIC virtualization now, rather than passing through a physical NIC directly.

I do not believe that SR-IOV is available on Free ESXi.

The OP should probably be made aware that virtualization is extremely complex at the implementation level, and lots of unusual stuff is unlikely to work correctly.

The QLogic cards are not well-supported by ... well everything I can think of. You should definitely switch to known-competent hardware if you want to do this sort of thing. The best choice for virtualization is probably the Intel X520, which is known to support passthru and SR-IOV, along with a Supermicro server mainboard from sometime in the last decade, which are mostly known to properly configure PCI, and ESXi for virtualization, which is the only competent hypervisor I've found for doing this stuff without lots of drama.
