How can I get a truenas scale version with NIS supported and no half memory wasted?

Have you looked under Directory Services -> NIS?

I don't have a SCALE box running right now but I thought there was some halfhearted support due to NFS.

I have a scale box running, unfortunately there is no NIS options, and almost half memory is not using.

while we are using NIS for access control, so I am using core on another build right now,

But seems fewer and fewer people are using freebsd, my question on truenas core is rarely responded.

Everyone using FreeBSD is very happy and a large portion of the userbase uses it, including all of iX's enterprise customers. There aren't many real problems with CORE, certainly a lot less than with SCALE, so most of the forum users you see are SCALE users wandering in with their Linux-related issues. Some of us have gotten tired of all the Linux whining and don't focus much on the SCALE forums as a result. It's probably a mistake to underestimate the number of users who just quietly enjoy their FreeBSD based NAS for years on end; iX posted stats on this somewhere but I didn't find the right keywords for it yet. SCALE is for people who enjoy masochistic bleeding. CORE is for those of us who like efficient stability.

One of your problems can be fixed. ARC can be improved.

NIS has been deprecated. If needed, you are better off using TrueNAS SCALE.

Thanks, jgreco, I have built a scale box for some time, it works well in the past severla months. And this is my first time to build a core box, and had some problems with the build, now I have figured out the problems, actually they are not real problems, it's my problem of lacking experience with core build. As you said, I hope I can enjoy the effcient stability of my new core build.

Thanks, Morgan, that's a good new that my scale build can fully utilize the memories. And I would try to use core for NIS.

From a long term Enterprise operation perspective, which would be the future, freebsd based core or linux based scale?

And if I want to get some paid offcial support for core or scale build, what should I do?

thanks
Jeremy

If you need NIS (or jails).. then FreeBSD. Otherwise SCALE will have more new features.

And if I want to get some paid offcial support for core or scale build, what should I do?

We currently only provide support on Enterprise appliances. We're happy to talk about support for a large volume of NAS systems with identical and quality hardware. Otherwise, support is a complex business...

Morgan

thanks
