Various problem (NTP/Possible SSL Certificate error freenas.org, and dd command wipe disk)

I recently installed (the latest available version of 12) and couldn't help but see the following problems. Small premise: I TRIED TO INSTALL/REINSTALL THE SYSTEM MANY TIMES...WITH THE SAME RESULT!

  • Problems in NTP:
The first start, after the installation everything runs smoothly. As I try to restart the machine and check the truenas console the following logs always appear from NTP:
MyNAS.local ntpd 1194 - - restrict: ignoring line 12, address/host '0.freebsd.pool.ntp.org' unusable.
I changed the backup battery of the PC, I fixed the hardware date via the bios, I also changed the NTP servers from truenas, but nothing... the problem remains there every time I restart. (PS: the internet connection is present and if I try to ping it works correctly)

  • Plugin bug(?) thumbnails:
Very strange situation...the official plugins are displayed correctly, while the community plugins do not see their icons! The really strange thing is that if I try to see the url of the plugins it brings me back to the freenas site icons.freenas.org. When I open it from the browser I get the expired ssl certificate error NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID... and here too I tried from many PCs (via the truenas web gui), and every time this problem appears. Another strange thing is that if I just type the domain, everything works fine. This I think is a problem, since until the day before yesterday I had no problems!

  • This thing is amazing! Command dd:
I tried to use dd by connecting the system ssd to another pc to be able to delete it... the dd command is successful, but when I try to put it inside my nas and try to install truenas it tells me there are some damaged partitions and deciding whether to upgrade or erase the disk for a clean install. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE!? DD SHOULD DELETE EVERYTHING! I NEVER HAPPENED (AFTER USING dd) THAT A SYSTEM ASKED ME IF I WANT TO UPDATE IT. HOW DOES TRUENAS KNOW THAT THERE IS STILL DATA ON THE SSD DD DELETED!? And I tried this thing both from truenas and by disconnecting the SSD and inserting it in another pc.

  • Last thing:
When I try to enable debug mode, I notice a lot of stack backtraces. It's normal? I state that everything runs smoothly and up to now I have never had any strange problems / warnings / blocks ... but through the webui message console I notice many backtrace stacks.

Thank you all and I hope you can help me

12 is end of life, and no longer supported.

  • Problems in NTP:

You can ignore this. So long as the other NTP servers are sync'ed, you're OK. This is because 0.freebsd.pool.ntp.org resolves to several NTP servers, and the one you happened to hit was down. You're hitting the same server because your ISP's DNS server has cached the IP.

  • Plugin bug(?) thumbnails:

This is due to an expired certificate at ixsystems.com. Once iX replaces the certificate, this will start working again.

  • This thing is amazing! Command dd:

The only way to wipe an SSD is to perform a secure erase using the manufacturer's utility. dd is not a reliable mechanism for wiping an SSD.

What do you think debug mode is? All the stack backtraces are the debug modes for system calls.

I decided to install this version as I know it's fully stable, compared to 13... and since it's my first time with this OS and file system, I don't want to run into problems. (I'll upgrade when I buy new "suitable" hardware and have some familiarity with ZFS/Truenas)

i tried with many different ntp and i changed dns too...

This is due to the an expired certificate at ixsystems.com.

I hope they will fix this thing. Is it possible they didn't notice?

I've always used dd, for everything. Intrigued by this matter, I checked (launching a hexdump) in the sectors where dd wrote and actually they were all filled with 0...so I wonder truenas what he was reading and above all from where...

What do you think debug mode is? All the stack backtraces are the debug modes for system calls.

yes I know, but I didn't expect all these backtraces. I repeat, being my first time in Freebsd/truenas, I didn't know how to interpret them; I didn't know if they were actually debug codes or some hidden errors visible only through debug...
