So it's not Adaptec....

I have some decomissioned hardware around with which I wanted to build a TrueNAS with. For example I have a Adaptec 8805E around which I first wanted to use but after a quick search I've found out that this would not work (well) together with TrueNAS and that Adpatec isn't the adress anymore for raid controllers. LSI is rather recommended. So what about the LSI/Broadcom SAS 9300-4i Host Bus Adapter? Is there any actual list of supported controllers?

Thanks.

Anything with the SAS3008, SAS2308 or SAS2008 controller will work fine. Other options exist, but you're fundamentally always looking at LSI HBAs. Pick the one that works best for you.

So what about the LSI/Broadcom SAS 9300-4i Host Bus Adapter?
Sure, but the full -8 model might be a better deal.

Well, exactly that. The -4is are often not really much cheaper. Of course, if you find that there's a substantial price difference, they're 100% valid options.
