Confusion over LSI Cards

So I am planing to get a LSI card to pass through to a virtual Instance of Freenas.
Sadly, I am plenty confused by all the different models.
I need one of the 8i versions, but don't know which one.
Do all have to be flashed into IT mode, or are there some that work out of the box ?
Will a cheaper Card limit throughput (e.g.: will 8 sata ssds provice

Is there a list that explains all the possible versions ?

while this gives some clues, I am still heavily confused about the different models.
They always seem to start with 9 like 9XXX , but then there are like a dozen different variants.


On another Note, does someone have experience with LUN Passthrough Disks ?
I am aware that I will lose Smart, but otherwise it should be fine for FreeNas.
Or am I missing something ?
