FYI, Intel C2000 family of processors: System Fault may lead to dead system.

No. FreeNAS can export a configuration file that contains tons of setting and information. In the GUI, it is at System > General, and there is a Save Config button at the bottom. It is widely advised that you save your configuration to your laptop or whatever after any significant changes.

Just FYI - I bought a pre-owned A1SRI-2758F board and Supermicro still (4 years after manufacture) offered a replacement, however they would only do it as an RMA repair, not a cross-ship due to the fact the original board was sold to an OEM customer.

SM is a quality outfit, which is why I bought my latest MB from them...

Following up on my dead board. I received my new board from AsRock, (William was very responsive and great to work with during the whole process). I plugged in the board (no drives or FreeNAS USB), got in bios to make sure all the Sata ports were enabled. Once that all looked fine (I didn't have to change anything, I just scanned through, I connected everything, changed the boot priority to boot from the USB drive and voila... All my data is there, Plex jail is working all is good. I have since bought a QNAP NAS as data backup for the FreeNAS server.

Does anyone know if the latest generation C2750 processor still suffer from the same manufacturing issue?

Supposedly, new (well, from after it was discovered) production is unaffected.

Thanks for that find. I've got two Mini mobos around here somewhere ...
Well, the mod relies on easily-accessible traces and holes that might not be available on a different board. You might need to get creative.

Yes, hence the "..." My comment was very much tongue in cheek.

I mean, getting creative sounds like a decent option when you've got two expensive paperweights that might be salvageable...

I sadly had my SuperMicro A1SAM-2550F suddenly die last night of what I suspect is this cause. It has been running well for 4.5 years, but I have requested an RMA and will see what they say. Tech support told me to mention "C2000 MB" in the problem description, so it sounds like they might have a policy in place.

Just wanted to update you guys on my situation, I just got my RMA back(replaced) and it works flawlessly, super Support and quick solution to my problem. I can just recommend AsRock Rack as of now.

Unfortunately, my story does not have a happy ending. After submitting an RMA request form, along with the required invoice to prove I purchased it, Asrock said they would replace my “out of warranty” C2750D4I for $240. While that is a lot less than the $400 I paid for it in August, 2015, it is still more than what I think is fair.

My position is that the board (through no fault of Asrock), was defective as built. They were made aware if this by Intel, in 2017. They should have recalled those all of boards and notified there resellers. So the fact that my board did not fail until the warranty expired, should not matter. (Then they should go back to intel for damages.)

So I’m quite disappointed. My 4 drive hot swap case has very little clearance, and there are few mini-itx cards that have ECC, and this card was a great fit.

I have decided not to go ahead with the replacement, and instead, buy a Super-micro X11SCL-IF mini-itx board with Core I3-9100F. That only costs an additional $40, although, I can’t use my DDR3 ECC memory. So that is another $100 for 16gb DDR4 UDIMM ECC.

I ordered the supermicro board from amazon, the i3-9100f cpu from bh photo, and 16 gb ECC memory from newegg. They all arrived in 2-3 days, and went together without issue. I had a silverstone low profile heat sink which fit with 1/2” height clearance.

So my 4 bay freenas server is back working. Yea.

I believe my C2750 board has died from this flaw after 5 years. Will see what Supermicro says.

Just a follow up with some good news here:
I put in an RMA request (March 10) for my A1SAM-2550F board that died due to this issue after 4.5 years of full-time use (citing C2000 MB in the request). Super Micro responded within a day (March 11), explained their RMA process, I chose cross-shipping where I pay a deposit ($272 USD), they send me a new board, and I send mine back, once verified the deposit is refunded. I signed and they sent it out the next day (March 12) and it arrived the following day (March 13). The new board was a A1SAM-2550F rev 2.00, and worked perfectly on first boot. I then shipped back the bad board on Monday (March 16)... but by that time a lot of places were on lockdown. It was finally delivered on March 30th, processed April 2nd, and refunded via Paypal on April 7th.
Overall it was a pretty good experience. I had a new board within 2 days, and it only cost me ~$30 in shipping and exchange fees, after floating the cost for just under four weeks.
