Looking at the screen on the FreeNas system it states that web user interface is at 192.168.178.3

However when I go in an type that in my browser I get:
This site can’t be reached
192.168.178.3 took too long to respond.
Try:
ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

I've tried in the command prompt of my iwndows machine
Code:
C:\Users\Romulus user>ping remus.local

which has always worked in the past, but now I get
Code:
Ping request could not find host remus.local. Please check the name and try again.

Any ideas? Can't recall the IP CITED BY THE FreeNAS box itself not having worked before.

Is this a new build or something that was working and now is not working? If it was working and now is not working, what was changed?
Usually these problems turn out to be that the wrong network connector on the NAS has the IP address assigned to it.

It was working, and now is no longer working.
I don't know what has been changed since it was last working, it's been a while since I freeNAS fiddled but it MAY coincide with having added a router in the middle. My old modem failed so I got a cheap TP-Link modem/router which (in theory) is working in bridged mode to a new TP-Link Archer C7 router. (I can access the GUI for this router if needed)

All my other stuff / networked devices still work fine.

I'd have thought though that if FreeNAS was reporting that it was at a certain IP then I should be able to connect there, but apparently not... ?

I'm not sure if it's any use but these are the current IPV4 settings shown in the routers GUI

This second image shows your internal network is on the IP address range of 192.168.0.x with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and that means the IP address of the server is in a different subnet at 192.168.178.3 and that tells me that when you switched hardware, your desktop computer picked up a new IP address from the DHCP server in your router, but the FreeNAS has a statically assigned IP address that did not change and it is in a range of addresses that you can't reach because of the router configuration. This should be easy to fix. Just change the IP address of the NAS, the part that is 172 needs to be 0 (zero) to match the range that the router is set to. Also, the part of the server address that is 3 needs to be a number that is outside the range of addresses the router is using for DHCP. On my router I had to change the DHCP settings to prevent the router from using the whole scope for DHCP, but you can probably set the 3 to be something like 101 and be safe.
Do you know how to change the FreeNAS IP address from the local console?
