Jails and mountpoints - confused!

Hi all,

So I have my main video folders on the host /mnt/nas/ pool. For each of the transmission and plex jails I have mounted this video folder, but it reports that the space is used three times over (one for the host and one in each jail, and with a folder of 2.1T its rapidly burning my available storage up). I had expected that mount points into jails from the host would not consume additional storage as they are referencing the same files on the host.

Is the problem that the iocage jails folder is stored on the /mnt/nas/iocage/jails (only one zpool currently). FreeNAS seems to default to the first non-boot pool.

What is it that I am missing?

All best,
Chris.

I suspect that you installed your jails where you were expecting to set your mount point but lets look to verify it. If you did it's still an easy fix.

First of all, what version of FreeNAS are you using and is it the Old or New GUI?

Instead of waiting for your answer the easy way is to look at your pool dataset structure and see where either iocage or warden jails is located. I'm sure if you read the user guide for FreeNAS that you will find it, or since you have been a user for so many years, you will find it without too much issue.

Good Luck. Now time for me to pay a large bill and then start cleaning up the house. The holidays were good but messy.

Thank you for responding. I'm using Freenas 11.2 release and new GUI. Also using IOCage jails.

I can usually puzzle these things out, but must admit I find the documentation around the new jail structures confusing.

My primary storage is under /mnt/nas and iocage is a dataset under /mnt/nas/iocage (nested under nas). I believe this was the default with the install.

My video resides in /mnt/nas/video and is mounted to /mnt/nas/iocage/plex/root/media/

The pools report window shows sensible numbers, but 'df' from the command line suggests consumed storage for each mounted instance. As the folders are 2.4T then it doesn't take long to eat up the space.

I am also receiving alerts for storage at 85%, tallying with 'df' output.

I am struggling to see what I've done wrong.

All best,
Chris.

So it sounds like you are struggling with the data consumed. Well how about posting a screen shot of your storage so we can see what the numbers look like. Maybe post your system configuration as well would help. If your storage is being used up and you can't justify it, do you have snapshots turned on? That has the great potential to eat up storage.

And your paths look fine to me, I don't see that being an issue.
