Put the card in a windows machine and attached the existing drives that had data on them but they look offline, so looks like it might be as its in ir mode, funny how freenas did not have this problem it read the drives fine

I hope it wasn't any important data. It is not really safe to attach your FreeNAS data drives to a Windows computer. It can cause the content of the drive to be destroyed because Windows thinks it is helping you out.

If I were looking to get a SAS controller that is already flashed to IT mode, this is the one I would buy:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-H220-6G...0-IT-Mode-for-ZFS-FreeNAS-unRAID/162862201664

I actually have two like that that I do use, but I flashed them myself. I feel your pain. It is a struggle to find the correct file and get the flashing utility to work the way it should. These cards can be bought for less, but it is almost worth the extra money to let someone else do the work for you.

Sorry for not being clear, the drives I tested with windows where not the freenas drives but NTFS drives that are in a windows box. Thank you for that Link I will be buying that card right away it is perfect.

UPDATE.
I did manage to flash the card to IT mode Thanks to this great guide https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/how-to-flash-lsi-9211-8i-using-efi-shell.50902/ but I used efi shell.
For some reason naming the shellx64 did not boot into the shell I had to rename it as Bootx64.
Using the same package it flashed fine so for some reason the problem was using freenas built in sas2flash.
Now I ended up with 2 cards lol as I bought the pre flashed out of frustration lol.

You can use the second card for the next build. That backup NAS you have been waiting for.

Great Idea as I have been thinking of a backup system as I currently only have 1 server with 32TB and no backup yet.

Thanks again
