I happened to look at the roadmap tonight and see that 11.0 is scheduled for release on May 1st - https://bugs.freenas.org/projects/freenas/roadmap It's something to look forward to on May day.

I gather that instead of going with 9.10.3 they decided to go with the OLD naming scheme, where the first number is based on the version of FreeBSD that they are using.

Yup, quasi-officially confirmed by @Kris Moore on BSD now earlier today.

Yes, we are switching the builds to name it 11 and creating the update trains now.
Yes, but this one goes to 11 ;)

It seems the VM section is still very very 'nightly'.
Any documentation pages on the VM section? I can only assume it's a fullblown iohyve/bhyve

I applaud iXsystems' new path. I always pronounced Corral as Coral in my head, (after
living on a Pacific island for 27 years).

My hope is that 9.10.x continues as a bug fix and well tested feature addition release.
For me, I prefer stability, (like my elvish ancesters :), and security over changes just
for the sake of getting rid of legacy code. Legacy code can be mitigated slowly, so as
not to impact customer base.

Although I'm slightly saddened that the bhyve VMs I created in Corral is not booting (after re-creating them in the VMs area, missing the file-based disks), I still hope this will only get better as time goes on.

What I wish I could have asked Kris (while watching the BSD Now episode) is where do I go for Kaby Lake support? The new hardware requires a downgrade to 9.10.1u4 to get properly installed and booting....

It should be working in the nightlies. Please check that and report back.

Will do! I assume this would be the proper place to fetch that iso?
(While not new at all to FreeBSD I am very new to FreeNAS, I am a little shaky trusting to update something working...)

Yeah, but you might as well wait if it's in production. Targeted release date is 2017-05-01.

Can you tell us exactly why it did not?

I had one of my disks as a file-based device (i.e. not a zvol) and so while the OS technically boots, it fails to function as the main data disk it's supposed to be using is gone.
Other than that, and the lack of the web-based VGA console, I *think* it might have been OK, but it's hard to tell. the interface is somewhat glitchy when it comes to managing VMs...

I got an Update failed notice upon rebooting with the nightly update.
Is there somewhere I should post the traceback?

Sorry, I meant "wait if it's in production"! Stupid typo.

But tracebacks are always useful. https://bugs.freenas.org/projects/freenas

Ok great thanks!

to recap before updating 9.10.1u4 via Nightlies 11 train, Under System -> Boot, I did create a "pre11" boot. So after two shots trying to get 11 to boot I have gone back to "pre11" and activated it

I will send them my traceback, yes despite the numerous debugging error messages, and the interface only half way able to correctly function it appears the bug I encountered in 9.10.2u2 has been fixed.

Hopefully they will get this all hammered out by May 1st!

Can you create a ticket asking for file-based disk? As well as the WebVNC?
Also, care to elaborate on the "glitchy"?
