Hi all!

So I recently came to the possession and maintenance of my organization's FreeNAS storage. Unfortunately, it seems that the person that was handling it before either ran off with the system drive or the system drive decided to die on me and no one knew about it. I checked through all of the other drives, unplugged/replugged SATA cables, unseated/reseated RAM and even powercycled the machine to make sure that none of the current drives are the system drive and for some reason I missed out on it. From what I've found and determined, they are all FreeNAS data disks, there just isn't a hard drive to act as the FreeNAS OS.

Doing some research, it seems that it's very much possible to now install the OS onto an 8gb USB flash drive and use that as the boot drive so I may do that, however, I wasn't sure that if I used a new USB boot drive, will the configurations and plugins that were installed somehow import or be restored? I'm not sure of the exact data structure of FreeNAS, but I've read that data on the drives will automatically remount and everything, but will something like OwnCloud be reinstalled?

On my OwnCloud installation, with OwnCloud manually installed in a jail, the OwnCloud configuration info resides in the jail. I think a plugin installation would be the same. So, assuming all the data is still good, OwnCloud should come back to life once you get the FreeNAS system running, set the jail root, and start the OwnCloud jail.

Good luck.
