All,
I am fairly new to the FreeNAS environment. I am currently running FreeNAS 9.2.1.8 with a standard Jail running owncloud 8.2.1. The Jail is running PHP 5.4.45 and I would like to upgrade to 5.6.x. My question is: if I upgrade will it "break" OwnCloud in the jail. I would hate to do this on a live box and not know how to restore it back to a working product. The jail and the server has been up and running for almost a year with no issues but I decided to upgrade the Owncloud over the weekend since I have not done any maintenance in a year. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

Take a snapshot of the dataset before you try anything, and if you break it and can't fix it you can simply roll back!

This is sound advice. Periodic snapshots and a properly planned backup is necessary to anyone who cares about their data.

is this just as simple of going to the FreeNAS GUI and going into storage clicking on the dataset and doing a manual snapshot?

Pretty much :D I usually click the recursive checkbox too, and add something at the end of the name so I know what it was for (e.g. pre902)
