... with extreme prejudice.
Come on now, the number of people traumatized by this forum is zero. Absolutely none.

And when I say "none", I mean there is a certain amount. More than I'm prepared to admit. But: all new members are warned that, if they wake up in the morning and find any tooth marks at all, anywhere on their bodies, they're to tell a mod immediately, so that they can immediately take every measure to hush the whole thing up.

Are you implying that the moderators bite?

I joined the FreeNAS bandwagon just before FreeNAS .7 split into FreeNAS .7 and 8.0. It was confusing for a while because .7 was still called FreeNAS (now NAS4Free). I still don't understand how iXsystems purchased the name FreeNAS when it was clearly all open source code but they did some magic and got the name. Then I really started learning some things but I was not (still not) a guru on FreeNAS but doing a little programming and compiling, it was fun. Honestly it feel like it's been longer than 5 years. There have been quite a few folks, some gone now and some still here, that have been a tremendous help. There have been trolls too.

I'd like to thank everyone who has offered constructive criticism and help. Yes, even noobsauce, aka Cyberjerk to some, Cyberjock to the rest of us.

Well, I hadn't even touched FreeBSD for any reason until FreeNAS. Plus I've met good friends here. Changed my life, really, in some sense, becoming part of this.

Looking forward to many more years.

Yeah, we're usually more discriminating than to befriend little tinpot marionettes. Standards slip with time I guess!

Heh!

I've been using freenas since... I can't remember. Version .7 something. It's been quite a ride. Started using freenas for the security/stability it implied. Tired of raid cards/arrays failing. The jump to .8 was confusing. Lots of new things to learn.

Loving being here. Never go back. Thank you all that make this community such a nice place to hang.

I'm relatively new here and love this forum. I've read almost every new thread every day and it seems many (including myself at times) never read the manual fully. Where the manual isn't detailed enough most times a search will find you the info needed. Love the mods and completely agree with their view points as people ask questions. Receive answers to their questions. And then tell the people that answered their questions that they are wrong because they read somewhere that what they want to do is possible. Rinse repeat until the thread gets locked. Always makes me laugh.

I look forward to many years of FreeNAS.

I don't bite.... hard. :D

@Mirfster if you want that "doesn't know what he's talking about" flag removed I can clear it. Just let me know.

I like the forum because of the high signal-to-noise ratio here; you can usually count on getting correct information. I really appreciate the high level of civility compared to most forums (fora?), which too often devolve into Hobbesian Lord Of The Flies anarchy. I'm impressed by the numerous multilingual members, many of whom write excellent colloquial English. I'm thankful to the many experts who freely share their hard-won knowledge with the rest of us. I try to help out with basic questions so that these folks can concentrate on the Rocket Science stuff.

Even the forum's preferred system board manufacturer -- Supermicro - resonates positively with me. My very first Pentium system, 'way back in the 90's, was a Supermicro P55CMS, one of their earliest offerings AFAIK, and it ran like a champ until I retired it, not because it failed but because the Pentium CPU was simply obsolete.

It's pretty cool that Jordan Hubbard, one of the founders of FreeBSD, is the CTO at iXsystems. That lends some gravitas to the project.

And of course, I think FreeNAS is an outstanding product.

EDIT: And the humor is nice, too... though I hope no one quits their day job just yet!
