I hope i am not asking a question that has been answered elsewhere, if so please accept my apology.

I have just installed 9.1.1 on a flashdrive for an AMD with 4gig of RAM.

Is there any diagnostic commands or logs that I should be looking at ?

Obvious question is: Do you have some drives attached that you want to create a volume on?

Is your controller compatible with freebsd?

This is a great question.

I am using an asus m4a88t-m and builtin controller AMD SB710. This board (after some googleing) appears in other peoples freenas builds. Additional evidence that I this should be OK, I can see the drives in via "View Disks"

I have seen indication that disabling SMART would help as some of the errors in messages log (above) appear HDD related.

The dd failed as there is existing metadata on this drive, the OS is protecting it. Wipe the drive with DBAN or the like. I would try a quick wipe first via the GUI.

The quick wipe from the GUI takes like 5 seconds.. oh well.

good idea - dban running now - should be done next week "sometime" -- I hope -- 2x 1TB drives
You only need to zero the drives and not the 3 pass DoD Short.
