I am new to FREEAS 9.3.
After reinstalling an os due to a failed memory stick, I used the 9.3 Wizard to reimport 2 zfs pools. They did with their datasets intact. However no previous data is available. Subsequently I have attempted to use the import volume function but get to the same results.

Is my mistake the initial use of the Wizard? if so is there a way to get the initial data back?

How have you determined that the files are missing. Are you accessing a network share and can't see them or have you dropped to the command line and checked things out?

The import *should* preserve the file permissions, but if lost the config file and had to re-setup things you could just have permission issues.

If you click on the Storage tab, in FreeNAS, what do you see beside the datasets. Are they showing any space usage?

You can also check by looking around at the command line.

That is the problem. The storage tab does not reflect the data used prior to the import. Only selected data within sub data sets is available.

Sounds like misconfigured Shares, resulting from an upgrade from an ancient version.

The ZFS Pool was created in 9.3. I do think that this could be a result of a share, as it was created by the freenas initial wizard, while I was importing the 2 zfs pools into a new freenas install. So what can be done to rectify this situation. Can I do it myself? or do I need some deeper programming to access the data?

As DifferentStrokes said "You can also check by looking around at the command line".

I would start there, since it's not dependent on file sharing/configuration, etc. Go to the shell via the webGUI, console menu, or SSH and type these commands, substituting your pool and directory names. Do you see any files listed?

cd /mnt/(poolname)/(directory name)

ls -l

Thanks for the clarity.

This is what I did. I have looked via shell and did not find any data. Could the initial wizard of freenas 9.3 overwritten the data on my zfs pool? If so is there a way to retrieve it?
