Hello
I've never done a FreeNAS machine before and I'm really excited to do my first one.

It will be primary used for backing up my and family data.
I'll also want it to be used as a Plex media server capable of transcoding 1080p to at least 3 clients at the same time without problems.

Ive done some research already about the hardware and did a build based on the hardware recommendation guide R1c I found here.

I would like some of you who had experience with to review my build and say if everything's ok and maybe give me some suggestions and what not
CPU: I3-6300 3.8ghz Dual core
Motherboard: AsRock C236 WSI mini Itx
RAM: Crucial 16GB (1 x 16GB) DDR4-2133 ECC
OS Storage: Sandisk ReadyCache 32GB 2.5" SSD
Storage: 4x WD Red 4TB 5400rpm
PSU: SeaSonic Snow Silent 750W 80+ Platinum
Case: Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX (white)

So, do I need to change anything?
Thanks!

Hi there,

Personally, I would stay away from the AsRock Rock boards ... they have been plagued by huge issues lately ... (look this up in the forum -- Keyword watchdog ) ....
I would stay with Supermicro -- Rock stable

Isn't the AsRock watchdog problem only occurring on the C2750/C2550 boards?
The C236 shouldn't be affected, as far as I understood the issue
(and the same goes for the C2000 issue).

FWIW.....I have my FreeNAS setup for precisely the same reason you are building your FreeNAS machine.
Running near perfect since day one. Please note my specs below. Seasonic 750w is kind of beefy for your setup.

That is a lot of storage for a home system!

I have a AsRock E3C226D2I with 2 x 8GB 1600 DDR 3 ECC memory for about three years now without any problems. The CPU is a i3-4370 LGA 1150. I have the same case as you have. I put in a Noctua NH-U12S cooler with the extra NF-P12 PWN fan. It is a tight fit but it works. The flash drive I was using for the boot drive died so I had an old SanDisk 64GB SSD that I am now using. I am using 5 HGST 2TB HUS724020ALE640 hard drives.

Just checked the CPU temp and it is 31C.
