Is it normal that the system writes to the disk At rest, in this way?

I think the more important question is "why are you using RAID with FreeNAS?" Someone probably has a PERC card, which we always say get rid of.

If you look at those numbers, that's 20-40KBytes. That's nothing at all.

I do not have many options, I work with an internal raid card. If you have any recommendations I'd love to solve.

My recommendation.... go to our documentation and read why RAID controllers are bad. Then decide if you want to get hardware that is more inline with our hardware requirements or if you want to find another OS to use.

can get a suitable link, that shows my problem? I remember I tried to work without raid card , the system will not allow me to choies riad two or one. So I purchased a Matisse order to solve the problem. But you say it's not recommended.

That shows your problem? The manual says not to use RAID. What more are you wanting? I'm confused. Is the manual not authoritative enough?

Not sure why you are attacking me :(What do you recommend to delete everything and start over?

I never said you should delete everything and start over. I said you should get rid of the RAID card. That may entail deleting everything depending on you setup. I don't know that though. I know nothing about your configuration since your initial post didn't even include basic information such as software version, hardware you are using, etc like the forum rules request.

Your pool may be the location for the system dataset, where various system related files are stored. Those include samba runtime information and system logs. Especially logfiles are written to constantly. If you have the newest FreeNas version (9.2.1.6), you can disable using the ZFS pool as a target for system logs. You can find it under "System" → "Settings" → "System Dataset": Uncheck Syslog.

Note however, that using the pool for system logging is not necessarily a bad thing. Keep also in mind that logging to the usb stick (if thats where your FreeNas installation is located), weares out that stick faster.

Thanks for the info .. I realized what I should do about the log

abeksis, you are using 1/2 of the mimimum RAM for FreeNAS. As a result you can expect poor performance as well as erratic behavior and potential ram crashes as well as possible fatal pool corruption.

It's recommended to not use a RAID controller card between the disks and ZFS. ZFS needs direct access to the disks to achieve the safety guarantees it makes. This is stated under NOTE: in the documentation here. But you might be able to configure your controller in "pass through" mode (IT mode), so that ZFS can see the disks directly. Doing that and keeping your pool alive is a different story though. I don't know how to to that. I personally would recreate the pool once I got set the RAID-controller to pass through (IT) mode.
