Im running a zpool of 6 x 3TB WD Red. Im having a windows share and when im copying files TO my share i get about 70MB/s and when copying files FROM my share i get about 32MB/s.

Even the write speed is about half of what each disk can handle on theyr own?

Im new to freenas so i dont know my way around all the utilities to benchmark this.

Update: Im having 32GB of RAM and im not using any raid controller card.

Update2: Output of " iozone -a -s 48g -r 4096"
KB reclen write rewrite read reread read write read rewrite r ead fwrite frewrite fread freread
50331648 4096 83172 48499 2359776 3886002 373704 41630 627949 6557150 625512

My Freenas speccs:
Intel i5 2500k
32GB RAM
MSI p67-c45 motherboard
Intel NIC

I know this isn't server component but before i spend any cash on a new machine i just wanted to try Freenas out and these components was what i had home.

Running iperf as a server on the freenas machine i get the following:
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
[ 4] 0.0-10.0 sec 660 MBytes 553 Mbits/sec

Running it as a client on the freenas give me this:
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
[ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 319 MBytes 267 Mbits/sec

That might be the problem. Try with a gigabit switch.
It does have a gigabit switch.

That said, it might need to be configured for hardware-accelerated switching.

Trying a separate gigabit switch is a good idea, anyway.

Ok so i have now tried with a HP pro Curve gigabit switch and brand new cables. Still the same problem.
I also tried running iperf from ubuntu to freenas just to make sure there wasnt any problem with iperf for windows. Same results.
Running the iperf server on freenas gives me ~570Mbit
and running it as a server on ubuntu 320Mbit

Well, you should be getting a minimum of 850Mb/sec with iperf, and realistically you should be able to hit 900Mb/sec. In any case, you have a definite issue with your network. I can't tell you what is wrong, but you're going to have to do trial and error to determine where the weakest link is.

Update: I loaded my nas with a brand new Intel 9301 CT network card today and BAM! Running the windows machine as iperf server gave me 939Mbit.
Running the freenas as server gave me 903Mbit.
Much better then before, but im sure i can squeeze out a little bit more.
Is there any tweaks to cifs or something i can try?
