Hi all,

I have an issue which makes me crazy right now.
I set up my FreeNas from scratch using 9.2.1.3 and configured the CIFS share

Workgroup: Workgroup
Windows 8.1 Workgroup: Workgroup

When I go to the network section of my Windows PC, I cant see the SMB share from my FreeNas Server.
When I type: \\freenas in the explorer window, everything works fine and I can connect to the FreeNas Server

Unfortunately, due to the missing smb share in the Network section, I cant see the SMB share in XMBC, which is not really perfect right now.

Any hint how to solve this is appreciated... :)

What about if you attempt to access via IP?

for sure it works fine when I use the IP (same as with the network name)
The problem is just that the server does not appear on the Network section of Windows 8...

Sounds like a DNS issue. If there is a DNS server on the internal network, make sure the FreeNAS hostname is in the zone. Otherwise, add it to the hosts file of the Windows system.

Try setting maximum protocol support to smb2 in the cifs settings
