So one of the main concerns that I have is mainly hardware related, the E-ATX mobo seems to have the side panel connectors at the top but normal computer cases have them at the top left. Is it supposed to go in sideways and will the enphoo pro support that (it does support E-ATX normally). Also I plan to put the toshiba drives into raid Z2 with the SSD as maybe partially a write cache but I need to use some of it as storage for some applications in VMs that will need the better 4k write/read speeds of an SSD. Once I put the toshiba's into raidz2 will I have to use it as one contiguous volume or can I separate it out into like 2TB as a network drive for my windows laptop/desktop and then maybe 4TB for plex media etc etc?

maybe check for ECC ram and also do some reasearch about freenas and the crucial mx500 I have in mind, that there was an issue with it. But i could be wrong.

regarding the discs, some vendors trying to sneak in smr drives. those drives are slower and can cause issues during resilvering. there is a list of brands and types. maybe check this as well.
