Still very new here and building my first NAS. Finding information here is a little frustrating cause it's all over the place.

This is what I (have) bought so far: (signature)

will be adding several WD's red's (4tb) and looking for a UPS

Can anyone point me to the discussion for network card and adapters or recommend one? So far I have heard about CHELSIO and Intel but which one will work for my set up? Mainly building this NAS for movies for more dependable storage.

Supermicro.com:
  1. Dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports (1 Intel® i217LM & 1 Intel® i210AT)
That's what you have onboard. These are solid NICs and there is no reason to upgrade unless you looking for 10gbe.

Hey, thanks for getting back. Shows that I don't know much but I'm learning. :(

Like @kdragon75 said, your system board has built-in network adapters that are perfectly compatible with FreeNAS.
If you need a 10Gb card, we need to talk more about the other equipment you are connecting to.
It matters if it is RJ-45 or SFP+ for example.

There is a video I can point you at but it is not nearly so comprehensive as the guide.

Thanks Chris, I have been looking at those guides and will look them over more. Since I have something that will work on board, I'll just stick with it. Not broken, don't fix
