I'm new to FreeNAS and I have a lot of questions. My current file server is running on Server 2012 and I was thinking damping Microsoft and switching to a FreeNAS. Currently I have 16 port hardware RAID card with 8 2TB WD Black drives and I'm planing on addin 8 more, dual lintel NICs, 16GB of RAM, AMD Phenom II x6 Procesor. My question is how would you set it up. Would you use the hardware RAID or ZFS or UFS. I will be adding more drives later on and I need to be able to expend the volume. Would you do a NIC bind? My setup is hardware RAID in RAID-10, when one of the drives fails I just pup a new one in and rebuild the array. What is the failed drive replacement process with FreeNAS ZFS/UFS? I never believed in software raid and never played with it. I also need to use the storage for ESXi datastor. What/how would you do it.
