So I performed an fresh install of FN10 upgrading from FN9.10.

With the os now up and running I created a new volume with the existing drives...WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
I should have imported the volume not create one, what dumb a**!

So I sat there sweating knowing I just lost 1.5tb of data. Worst of all I lost 13 years of family photos. At this point not being in a happy mood I left the system alone to gather my thoughts....a day or so later it struck me Crashplan! You ripper!

A week or so prior I installed Crashplan onto my WIN10 system as I could not for the life of me install it on FN9.10. I managed to backup approx 40% of the network share from the NAS as I was testing Crashplan under a 30 day trail period. So I recovered the 40% but still lost a lot of data and photos.

What not do...
Do not create a new vol unless you are sure you are not losing existing data.

Recommendations...
Firstly - Try importing a volume whether or not one existed prior to setting up a used system.
Secondly - Install some type of back up system onto FN9.10 or FN10 to backup your data somewhere.

I installed Crashplan easily on FN10 and I now have 100% of the NAS data backed up.

Still guttered at my own stupidity.

First thing, before anything else: Always, always, always, ALWAYS make a full external backup first.

Always. First.

And to add to that .. test your backups regularly, otherwise you don't have a backup.
