what does the "save config" actually save

hello folks. im a little new to freenas but have a whole system set up and quiet a few machine depending on it. i see this button in the settings that says "save config". now what exactly does this save? obviously i know nothing with the storage volumes and all that junk so im assuming nothing with shares you have set up either correct?

anybody have a little more info on this as this page does not explain much at all.

it allows you to download the database that the system stores configurations in....

you can then save it to wherever you like in case you need to restore your config in the future
