Hi guys, I'm running a TRUENAS-MINI-3.0-XL+ on TrueNAS-12.0-U6. And I'm trying to run some syncing tasks and am running into some weird files that I don't know the source of. The system has only been up for a couple of weeks and no one has access but me so I don't know where they're coming from, please see pictures below for a snip-it of files, can anyone guess at what they are? Can I safely delete them?

JK. Nothing to do with TrueNAS. SyncToy leaving crap behind, just don't know why I couldn't delete from user that created the files but I can use root to delete

@anodos So what is wierd is that the user that runs the sync program has (I believe) full read/write access, but when the sync programs write a temp file SOMETIMES it seems that the same user cannot delete the files it just made. I was able to delete those files as root but more files showed up with the same symptoms.

Yeah, it might be a side-effect of the permissions that you've set on the share. You should create a dataset in CovidPool with the SMB share type preset, then share that one out.

No clue how to do this, I'm sure it's probably a share issue but I just used the built in TrueNAS tools to set this up

The online documentation gives instructions on how to set up a ZFS dataset.
Can you give me an idea on what to start searching? Just google "ZFS dataset truenas"? I'm not an IT guys and kinda was hoping Truenas was a bit easier to setup lol

So after 5 minutes reading.. Seems as though I have done everything wrong.. I created my POOL and kinda just assumed that was my home directory and I could set permissions for everything inside. I thought it was abnormal that I couldnt change permissions for the pool but now I realize that I should have made a dataset and assigned permissions THERE.. not in the pool. I will need to start creating a dataset / testing / moving files over but this sucks because I've already automated a bunch of stuff around the current file structure. Ooops. Thanks for all your help.

No. Forgot what version you were on. Same site has docs for CORE.
Last question I promise, I'm running a VM on this thing and am quite disappointed with the performance. Was hoping that SCALE had better performance for the VMs and was considering upgrading to see if VM performance was any better but I didn't see anything in patch notes about VM fixes. Do you know if SCALE performance is better for VMs as compared to CORE?
