I remember when I initially was starting out with FreeNAS, there was v9 and that v10 that was shortlived. I at first tried using 10 but that never worked properly with encryption despite the much cooler looking gui. I ended up using v9 and never had any problems over past couple years till this crept up on me.
Anyway, new drive has been ordered and will definately re-key it afterwards.
This process also made me learn the difference between a geli key and a geli recovery key cause prior to reading up on manually unlocking them before I did what I ended up doing I found a forum post that explained it to me.
