VMXNET3 vs NIC being passed through

I have TrueNAS virtualized at the moment, with the specs in my signature.

I currently have an Intel X520-2 with both links connected at 10gbps.

I'm capping out at about 3.3gbps with the open speedtest plugin, as well as file transfers(not sure I'll really be able to get more with the current array and this configuration).

Testing from a Windows machine connected to the Unifi USW-Aggregation, and from a VM on the same host, getting about the same results.

Was really wanting to know if this is about inline with what I *should* expect, or if it would be worthwhile passing through a separate NIC to the VM.

Thank you

If you look for posts about iperf3 in the forum, you'll see several tips, probably the most important will be that you're testing single-threaded, so you may need multi-threaded tests to hit 10G (if it's not something wrong with the network).

I would also point out that dual-connected NICs (LAGG) will often result in slower overall transfers.

Thank you @sretalla I appreciate that!

I did configure the host to be Active/Standby now with the NIC, and I was able to get 4.4gbps consistently through OpenSpeedTest -

I will have to test with iperf shortly, thanks again!
