I do have a Setup of:
- FreeNAS 11.2U2.1
- H370M-ITX / I5-8400
- 32Gbyte ram
- 4*4TB WD RED | 2* MX500 SSD
- 2* USB Drives for boot

USB3 is terribly slow. I am now replacing the failed USB2 Thumb with another in the mirror. I have USB3.0 and USB2.0s

If I plug any USB2.0 Thumbdrive they will resilver 1.5GB in a less than 10 minutes In the case of USB3.0 the speed is 1.83Mbyte/s and dropping

All the USB3 devices I tried:
Kingston DataTraveler3.0, Sandisk 3.0, Sandisk USB-c/USB-A All are going really slow.

are there some tunables or boot parameters to help it work better? is USB3 still not fully supported?

The easy answer is to not use USB 3.x for anything.
The best answer for boot device is to use SATA.
- H370M-ITX / I5-8400
- 32Gbyte ram
- 4*4TB WD RED | 2* MX500 SSD
- 2* USB Drives for boot
That is not a good selection for a system. Can you send it back?

I understand your recomendation for SSD, though the freenas-boot is also good with USB mirrored. I cannot return a hardwere when it is just remaining hardware from my old desktop.
I have a small server only for storing photos. Performance is ok.
The issue is the ECC on the hardware or everything?

My question still, is usb going to be more reliable, is it something due to FreeBSD11.2 or FreeNas specific?
