I have a dual set of USB-powered fans running on my FreeNAS box (which is located inside an entertainment center cabinet) to help keep it cool. As it stands now, they're just always on - is there any way to control the USB port they're on? Ideally, I'd like them to kick on then off either at some preset timed interval, or only come on/off once the temperature reaches some predefined value. I get the feeling this isn't possible, but I'm still a super newb at FreeBSD and *nix setups in general, so I thought I'd ask.

Any thoughts?

Why not just leave them on all the time? It's not like your server will get cold from too much airflow :P

Seems like you are trying to fix something that isn't broke...

Haha, you're absolutely right! My aim was to reduce the power consumption of the fans if possible. Y'know, sort of a "turn off the lights when you leave the room" kind of thing :) It's certainly not something that's worth going through tons of effort for, and a Google search turned up nothing relevant, figured I'd ask.
