We are a small video production studio, currently working with 4K content. Our workflow primarily involves creating up to eight 4K 30fps h.265 files using Blackmagic HyperDeck Pros, each equipped with a 1TB SSD drive. We then utilize FTP to transfer these files to our Synology four-bay NAS.

Our existing setup includes a Unifi Pro Aggregation Network Switch, and we use a 10Gb Mac Mini as our primary editing machine. However, we're encountering some performance issues; renders frequently fail to compress when using Apple Compressor, and we've observed poor timeline performance in Final Cut X. This issue has also appeared in DaVinci Resolve when we edit BRAW directly off the NAS.

As we look forward to expanding our team of editors, we're aiming to establish a system that can withstand simultaneous access from multiple users. To address our challenges and accommodate our growth, we're contemplating moving away from the Synology NAS and adopting a TrueNAS system.

One feature we appreciate about our current setup is Synology's cloud sync app's ability to seamlessly integrate with our business Dropbox account. It provides a real-time bidirectional sync for our files, allowing us to deliver content swiftly to our clients. In our preliminary testing with TrueNAS, we've found its cloud sync task somewhat lacking in comparison, both in speed and bidirectionality.

We're reaching out to this community to ask for suggestions on suitable hardware and software solutions. We are particularly interested in ways to maintain the same level of functionality as we have currently, but with improved performance and scalability for our expanding team.
