Ok, I have signed onto the "new train" of 11.2-STABLE and have restarted just like it told me to right after it downloaded it. Nothing happened. It restarts and just states waiting to apply changes. No matter what I do, 11.2 does not show up on the boot screen or anything. Am I missing something? Isn't it as easy as "select new train" and then apply updates...it downs and installs and I reboot? I'm thoroughly confused at this. Anyone else have this issue or know what I am doing wrong? I really want to get to 11.2 as PLEX plugin for 11.1 just flat out doesn't work anymore. Will NOT start and is overwhelmingly unsatisfactory. ANY AND ALL HELP WOULD BE FABULOUS! Thank you in advance!

11.2 is still in BETA. The naming is based on the FreeBSD 11.2-STABLE. We all know this was a bad choice on iXsystems part. They know it too now. Look into setting up your own Plex iocage based jail. You can have it fully updated. Its may be a bit more work but if you follow the guides it should not be to hard.

aaaaaand awesome. Well...I have rebooted and I think I'm stuck in an instance that it tells me to reboot to "update," even though I went back to 11.1.

What do you mean you rebooted when it told you to? What did you do and when? Every time I have done an update the system reboots itself.

Did you actually press the 'apply pending update' button? All you have described is just downloading the update on the new train, but it won't apply it until you tell it to. If you do apply it, expect half an hour of nothing happening and a couple of reboots - a bit like Windows. Apologies if I am talking nonsense.

Yeah, that was NOT my experience. I did the "apply updates" and then it said it would install upon rebooting. It just waited for me to reboot. I waited a day...it did nothing.

No...no appologies needed. It had the updates applied. I hit it. It just asked me to reboot...I did...it did nothing. In the boot options, it didn't even show 11.2. Just the original, default and my current running version like normal. Surprised me for sure.

How strange. Are you going to try again with RC1?

Holy crap am I getting some weird bootup screens now. Once it's all done, now taking an extra long time, PLEX and freenas work...but errors galore. CCB error, GRUB error. I would post the log file to show you if I knew how. I just want the original FreeNAS system again that I had. A clean install, but I have three pools setup with data on them.

If you can get into FreeNAS look at the boot (in 11.1 it was under system). That's your boot drive (e.g., USB stick or SSD).

It should table a display of all bootable releases, but if it gets too "full" e.g., the USB stick is 88% full, it's time to delete older ones. I'm still on 11.1U6 so I just have that and 11.1-RELEASE. I'm at 32% used on my USB stick, so good to go.

Can you screen grab your boot screen/table and respond?

yeah...now its not even letting it boot up. Somehow it is auto-destructing itself. Are my "pools" stills safe? can I just reinstall from another usb onto this usb and then import the zfs files systems back into the new system? my family was LITERALLY in PLEX when I got home...and then when I came downstairs to my computer to log into the FreeNAS GUI, like you said, my IP wouldn't work and everything up and stopped.

Pools are retained if you use the same drives. You can move to a new mobo if you remember the pool name(s). For example, I moved from 6 drives using motherboard SATA ports to a new LSI SAS card and attached the drives to that. FreeNAS rebooted, knew the card, and the drives imported just like they should...pool retained.

I finally got it working. Basically, a whole lot of restarting and "tweeking." It did recognize the pools and everything worked out. For some reason it just took a minute or two. I have not "upgraded" my pools. I think I am going to wait to do that until 11.2 ACTUAL stable comes out. Then I'll do that.
