I just found something that may be related.

I have one volume, mounted at /mnt/array2 . I have "array2" shared. My jails have always been in /mnt/array2/jails. Now, the UI is erroring saying that the jail root cannot be on a share, and the documentation says the same thing. I'm wondering if that's somehow related.

That said, a new jail works completely fine. I'd rather not have to move my application/database/etc to a new jail, but if I must...

The documentation and error are incorrect. My understanding is that the warning is meant to prevent creating a jail root in a place that would overwrite a shared path. Sharing the jails directory by itself does not create a problem.

That's what I would have thought. I lost patience fighting with it and since I had 2 spare drive trays and Micro Center had a sale, I just bought a dedicated pair of drives for jails, and in the future, VMs & containers.

I'm working on rebuilding my jails now...pain in the you know what, but so be it.
